Embracing Faith: Navigating Unexpected Journeys

Reflecting on this past year, one thing stands out above all else: how deeply my faith has been woven into every moment. This year has been full of unexpected turns and humbling realizations, the biggest of which came halfway through the year when I found out we’re expecting another child—our third. The news took me by complete surprise and, to be honest, terrified me. Soon, we’ll have two little ones under two years old, a thought that felt overwhelming when I first heard it. But as I’ve processed this, prayed through it, and leaned into my faith, I’ve found that God has been with us every step of the way. This surprise has not only stretched my faith but transformed it.

Faith in the Face of Fear

When I first found out about this pregnancy, my reaction was mixed—there was joy, but also a sense of fear that almost overwhelmed me. Having two little ones under two sounded like an enormous responsibility. My mind raced with questions: How would we handle it? Would we have enough time, patience, and resources to give each child the love and attention they need? Could I be the parent they deserve? In those initial weeks, I found myself praying constantly, asking God for peace and guidance, because the weight of that fear was heavy.

Faith became my anchor as I wrestled with my emotions. Turning to scripture brought comfort and perspective, reminding me that God equips us for every task He calls us to. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future,” was a verse I read often, and it began to speak to my heart in a new way. Slowly, I started to let go of my own need to control and began to trust that God had a purpose in bringing this new life into our family, even if it wasn’t part of my original plan.

Finding Joy in the Gift of New Life

One of the most beautiful realizations I’ve had during this time is that every new life is a gift, a reflection of God’s abundant love. As parents, we’re entrusted with something sacred—to nurture, protect, and guide a soul that God Himself created. When I shifted my perspective from fear to gratitude, I began to see this new pregnancy as an incredible blessing.

Even the practical fears that initially seemed so big started to fade as I remembered that God would provide. Philippians 4:19 reassures us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” The realization that God has already provided for us—and will continue to provide for us—has filled my heart with peace. As I prepare to welcome this new baby, I’ve found myself overwhelmed by a sense of gratitude that I didn’t expect.

Faith Through Life’s Seasons

Throughout this year, faith has been the foundation that has carried me through many different seasons: times of joy, worry, exhaustion, and reflection. This year has taught me that faith isn’t always about understanding what’s ahead; often, it’s about being willing to trust in the unknown. There are days when I still feel the weight of the responsibilities that lie ahead, but faith reminds me that I don’t walk this journey alone. God’s presence is a constant comfort, whether I’m filled with joy, uncertainty, or something in between.

Through this journey, I’ve also seen God use our circumstances to draw our family closer together. My spouse and I have had conversations that were honest, vulnerable, and faith-filled as we’ve worked through our hopes and fears. We’ve prayed together for strength, patience, and wisdom, and that shared faith has strengthened our bond in ways we didn’t anticipate. In moments when I feel weak or overwhelmed, knowing that we’re both relying on God’s strength gives me hope and reassurance. I’ve learned that we’re not expected to have everything figured out; instead, we’re invited to rely on a God who holds our future in His hands.

The Role of Community in Strengthening Faith

This year has also been a powerful reminder of the importance of community. Sharing the news with family and friends was initially nerve-wracking—I worried about what they might think or how they’d respond. But as soon as we began opening up about our journey, we received an outpouring of love and support. Friends offered to help, family members shared stories of their own unexpected journeys, and our church community surrounded us with prayers and encouragement.

I’ve come to realize that faith isn’t meant to be a solitary journey. When we share our lives, including our challenges and fears, with others, we’re reminded that we are part of a larger body of believers who can lift us up in prayer and offer their love and support. That sense of community has been incredibly comforting. Knowing that people are praying for us and cheering us on reminds me that God often works through the people around us. Their words of encouragement have been like little lights guiding us through this season.

Learning to Embrace the Unknown

Perhaps one of the greatest lessons faith has taught me this year is to embrace the unknown with an open heart. Having another child wasn’t something I planned, and part of me still doesn’t know exactly how we’ll manage everything. But I’m learning to rest in the knowledge that God’s plans are greater than my own. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This verse has become a daily reminder to let go of my need to know every answer and to instead trust in the One who holds the future.

I’m learning to approach each day with gratitude, seeing each moment as a part of God’s plan. There’s a quiet peace in letting go, in allowing God to be in control and trusting that He will equip us for whatever lies ahead. It’s not easy, and there are days when I still feel the weight of worry, but faith allows me to turn those concerns over to God, confident that He will carry us through.

Deepening My Thankfulness

This pregnancy has also made me more aware of the blessings we already have. I find myself cherishing the little things—a quiet morning, the laughter of my children, the joy of shared meals with family. This gratitude has become a daily practice, helping me focus on the present rather than worry about the future. It’s incredible how faith can transform fear into thankfulness, revealing the beauty in each season of life.

As I look around, I see countless blessings that I may have taken for granted before. I’m thankful for our home, where we’ll welcome this new baby; for the love and support of family and friends; and for the everyday moments that make life rich. Psalm 136:1, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever,” has been a reminder of God’s unwavering goodness. Even in the midst of uncertainty, there is so much to be thankful for.

Preparing for the Future with Faith

As we move forward, my heart is filled with gratitude and hope. While I know there will be challenges, I’m also confident that God has prepared us for this season. I look forward to the love and joy this new life will bring, and I’m excited to see how God will continue to shape our family and our faith.

This journey has taught me to surrender my own plans, to trust in God’s perfect timing, and to lean on His strength. Faith has shaped my year in ways I couldn’t have anticipated. It has taken my fears and transformed them into hope, reminded me of the power of community, and deepened my gratitude for the life we’ve been given. As we prepare to welcome our newest family member, I feel a profound sense of peace, knowing that God’s hand is guiding us every step of the way.

Closing Thoughts: Walking by Faith, Not by Sight

Reflecting on this year, I realize that faith has shaped every moment, from my initial fears to my growing gratitude. It’s not that the challenges have disappeared, but that my perspective has shifted. Faith has reminded me that I’m not in control, but that God is, and He is faithful. This year, my faith has grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I am grateful for the gift of life, the support of loved ones, and the quiet, steadfast presence of God.

As I move forward, my prayer is to continue walking by faith, trusting in God’s plans, and embracing each blessing as it comes. This new chapter is a reminder that life doesn’t always go as planned, but God’s love and guidance are constants. I am thankful, not only for this unexpected journey but for the chance to see His faithfulness in every step we take together as a family.
